How To Fake A Storage Auction

If you missed it Dave Hester say Storage Wars is as Fake as Donald Trump’s hairline. Will all the Bruhaha over this claims. Fire fights are the rule of the day on internet forums and Facebook.

I Knew it!  Proclaims a certain crowd ( I am in that camp)

No! It is real and there is no Faking!  Dave is full of shit! ( Oh really motherfucker? Really?)

There was even one site that went to great lengths to reduce  the fears of unclean masses that worship at the “possibility “ of buying a unit and never having to work again. Say what you will, about how everyone knows “reality” television is fake, if it was proven that the units were salted, the ratings of the show would take a hit.  Please understand that is the only thing in danger.

Some wonder if they were to get caught slipping what would be the legal ramifications of salting a unit or faking an auction. Unless they were extremely careless ( maybe)  there are no legal consequences on the horizon of the show , the network or the producers. Trust Dave is going to get a shut-up-and-go-away-settlement. The show makes a ton of money, so what he wants is easily in the budget. In the end it will come down to what it started with.

 Money.

On the fakery and trickeration of the show, which is my belief after being in the business for years and buying and helping  to sell the contents of almost 1600 units collectively. I know the more you buy the luckier you become. Not buy just one unit and come up.

Over 70% of the units I bought only had regular-run-of-the-mill-stuff in them, but if you get a $25 dollar items for a penny , you make money. It is all about the margins. About 20% had better than average stuff and the remaining 10% had the Ooooo Weeee type shit in them, the stuff you see on the TV shows.  I know for a fact they are not buying hundreds of units.

I also know for a fact how TV producers work. In 2010 I had a chance to host  on the first storage auction  show. The network did not believe in me or the concept, if I had to choose I am going to say it was me. The concept rocks as you can see from Storage Wars and Auction Hunter ratings.  Staging, faking and arranging units were brought up several times after I explained how the business really worked, I never relented from this position. In my opinion there is enough television worthy events in the storage game you don’t have to fake shit.  That is what the Porn Is Always In The DVD Player is about.

There are several ways they can stack or stage a unit and never have to worry about being sued of breaking the law.  You must understand how the lien law process works, there are several ways they can make sure a unit is ready for TV and never even close to breaking the law. There are some places in the process for them to set up a unit , it would be very easy to do.Property managers know their tenants, they know the folk who are problem children and the really good ones also know with a 95% success rate of who is going to pay up or not.  I don’t know how many times a manager said. “Oh he is going to pay…” like five minutes before the auction would start and at the last possible minute here  he comes waving cash in the air.  How do  they know? They have stalked these people for weeks to months dozens of phone calls to get them to pay up. A really good manager can lower a property’s  auction unit count dramatically!

The first way they can use a legitimate unit for the auction is the tenant signs it over to the company happens all the time. The tenant say I don’t want and I can’t pay do whatever you want with it.  That is how I got the Do Jo unit. They sign the release and vida bing they can do whatever to that unit, including salting the shit out of it.   I break down the other ways storage units are staged and set the public up for bamboozlement- yes this was going on long before the televisions shows were even thought about.  in this video:

Some places do it for sport, there is nothing like watching a guy drop a $1000 on a room full of empty boxes, now that is entertainment!

This usually happens at the smaller properties, the big boys have no need for these shenanigans  Storage companies make plenty of bank. Public Storage bought Shurguard for $5,000,000,000 in 2006  and much of that was in cash, yes cash. I remember when the talks started and we on the auction trail were not happy!  Shurguard was a “ honey hole “ for me, not many attended their auctions and I got some AWESOME shit from the Ansley Park property, this place inspired the video Gays Guys Have The Best Stuff

So in my opinion the units on the television shows  are staged and the show is fake. If you believe otherwise hit me up I have a incredible deal for you, there is bridge I want to sell you . It is the deal of a life time.

    Hi Glendon,

After purchasing hundreds of units, do you feel that any one of them possibly came from a staged operation?
